Make The Most Of A Very Small Space To Garden

Even if you don’t have vast amount of backyard space, you can make the most of any situation and create a fun and exciting space your family and friends can enjoy. A bit of outdoor greenery can help you soak up the sunshine, breath fresh air, hear bird songs, enjoy the wild life and even drink a cup of tea in peace.

With that in mind, here are some top tips that you can use to make the most of a small garden!

• Add levels to break up the space. For example, adding a layer of potted plants that might weave around the wall to one of your corners often creates an optical illusion that makes the entire garden space appear bigger and brighter. 

• If you don’t have the space for a greenhouse but want to start growing your own organic fruits and vegetables, set up a vegetable patch or little corner of herbs instead. This takes up significantly less space and will add a unique touch to your garden or a window sill while simultaneously allowing you to learn a new skill. The potted herbal arrangement can add a nice dimension to your kitchen counter as well.

• Understand how to deal with annoying garden issues that may arise. And yes some people consider them annoying. For example, if you live nearby an area that is full of maple trees, you may find that maple tree seeds often find their way into your garden – if they take root, this could affect your flowers or vegetables growth and generally take up a lot of space. Finding a way to quickly and easily remove them will help keep your garden in good order – making it easier to make the most of the space. 

• If a wall or fence blocks off your garden, remember that you can decorate these areas also. For example, this could mean that you grab a paintbrush and add a splash of color to the area. Opt for a light, bright color such as white – as this, once again, can create the illusion of more space. 

• Make the most of hanging baskets or shelves so that you can fit as many plants as you desire into your garden – without risking running out of space. Alternatively, you could also try growing climbing plants – which always look great, though they require a lot of maintenance. 

• Get furniture that can be folded away when not in use and stored elsewhere. Quite versatile options are out there. For example, you could switch out a bench for something a little more exciting such as a colorful hammock.
