Rossini: Barber of Seville.

BARBer of seville

A very familiar familial drama that occurred almost 3 centuries ago. Love-stricken daughter seeks to outsmart her harsh and esteemed Father. Popular town Barber is money hungry accomplice to his well to do, hopelessly in love, friend. A noble young lad who is madly in love and will do anything to win his love’s affections.

Visiting this festive musical event left a lasting impression for weeks to come:

  1. Opera music could be listened and easily enjoyed over and over again without getting tired of the melodic composition. It moves the heart and pumps serotonin into the cranium.
  2. Appreciating such colorful evening is best with the friend who is well versed in theater performances or at least appreciate the gifts of fine arts. Mutual admiration of stagecraft intensifies the joy of human artistry.
  3. The sea of esteemed grey haired admirers posing a perplexing question to who is exactly will be attending such festivities in 2 decades? Or better yet, the question should be modeled as to how do we preserve this form of entertainment for the future generations to enjoy?
  4. All of us met and have a Figaro in our lives. Money obsessed local town gossiper who is amusing and humorous, and using his natural charms to his own benefit. Such observation confirms that Human DNA does not change, even centuries later.
  5. My 16 years old classmate, disobeyed her prominent law enforcement father, ran away, married against her parent’s wishes,  produced a child and was divorced a year later. It is quite curious, how the history repeats itself. Every old historic scenario is practically new for each age group.
  6. Lastly, I wish I could ask magical composer Rossini, why did the noble count had to pretend he was an unknown stranger, instead of revealing his honest intentions to marry doctor’s daughter? Why sneaking behind parent’s back, if only to cause mischief?

Then again, the comedic opera would not last for 2.5 hours, would it?

  7. My dinner table was discussing plays last night, over an article on Oedipus Rex.. and like it always does, it flowed to others! ☺️ Finding this today, I’m elated… Brought back memories from dinner last night, plus a truckload from elsewhere 🙂
